if you check out www.nightwish.com there is an open invitation for any woman to send in a CD with 2 or 3 songs on it. This is kind of an open audition, I guess.
So I'm going to do it. I'm going to find a place to record, and my voice instructor and I will record me singing, then I'll send it in.
I don't think I'll even get past the first wave, but I am still going to go for it. Nothing lost, nothing gained, right?
-
Go for it. If you feel like trying but for some reason would not, you're likely to regret it someday. I'll keep my fingers crossed!
-
Yeah go for it! :)...( I'm still not going to do the same with Finntroll.. ;))
-
Yeah, nice! And if you make it to the "finals" - will you move over to Virvatuli? :D

Yeah I wouldn't mind
-
Oh well good luck with this...of course you have nothing to loose but only gain from this so good luck once more
-
Good luck!
(If you make it, we dearly expect free tickets for the shows, you know.)
;)
Greetz,
Tex

LOL well I probably would need a place to live... :D
Someone told me that if I want to increase my chances, at least one of the songs should be a Disney Ballad. (Because Tuomas Holopainen is Disney-obsessed.) I've decided on something Disney for my third song...I'm not sure what, though. Again, the liklihood of the boys in NW hearing the CD is like...nil, but at least I'll have something some samples of my voice available in case any other bands are looking for a singer.
It' kind of feels like the Finnish version of Rockstar INXS, though. As long as they don't turn it into a reality show...:P

Or you could sing in Finnish ;)

Dunno the show you mentiones. But I do know that at least Amorphis was offered the chance to make a reality show "finding a new singer to amorphis" and I'm pretty sure that Nightwish too was offered something equivalent.
What a wonder they didn't take the offer
-
This is really cool! Go for it, as stated you have nothing to lose, but an opportunity!
-
I'm not going to do a Finnish song simply because I do not speak the language.
When auditioning for a play or a musical, it is suggested that the auditionee NOT read from the script using an accent (even if the character has one) unless he/she can do the accent flawlessly.
I am applying this principle to auditioning for an established metal band - since I don't know the language, I'd rather have three good songs in english, than butcher one in Finnish. That wouldn't do anyone any favors. I don't want to make them want to stab pencils into their ears, after all. :P

Hey they don't lack humour either ;)
-
Hey AoM, go for it!
As you say, you can still use those songs as samples for other band auditions.
But in case you do get the chance at Nightwish... wow... I mean just imagine guys :) Our Angel of Music becoming the Angel of Nightwish! What a thought :D
You're first fanbase is a guarantee ;)
Good luck!!

Yeah, I've already had people tell me "It'd be so cool to see you on the cover of a metal magazine!!!" And similar things.
And I'm still not convinced I'll even get past the first wave. Some of the other people who sent in stuff have posted their stuff at the NW boards and a few of them are REALLY good. I'm honestly not sure how good I am, or who I could possibly compare myself to. One person who has heard me sing thought I sounded like Simone Simmons of Epica, but I don't hear any similarities. So I don't know...Heck, if I get past the first wave and even end up being considered, I'll be amazed! :)

Now I'm really interested to hear you sing :) Cause who knows who'll be the next lady to dominate the boys ;)
-
I'm afraid you're all setting up too-high expectations and may be sorely dissappointed. :P
But! I started working on the music today. Ave Maria, Wishin You Were Somehow Here Again and Colors of the Wind are the songs I've settled on. Just doing those three songs gave my voice a work out. I was ready for a nap when I was done!
-
I'll be stepping into the recording studio on the 22nd of this month. Frankly, I'm really, really nervous. What if I suck and the recording studio guy is all "Wow, you were HORRIBLE." or what if I mess up constantly? Or worse, what if NW finds a new singer before I get things recorded and sent off???
Yes, I'm panicking just a little. Though the announcement hasn't even been out a full month yet, so I'm sure they won't announce a new singer within the next two or three weeks. Right?
-
Right Angel, don't panic, they won't be announcing the new singer until they heard your record ;)
Seriously, I don't think there'll be an anouncement within the next two or three months!
Tuomas is still writing stuff for the new record, so why hurry with finding a new singer, right?
So there is enough time for you to work out your songs properly!
I'm sure you'll give your best and you'll be proud of the result ;)
-
ARGH, I had to reschedule my recording session to the 29th because my Pianist won't be in on the 22nd!!! Am I stressing? Yes. ALOT.
-
Oh, I am looking forward to hearing you sing, Angel! And indeed: Don't panic. Take your towel and stay tuned. ;)
-
I record tomorrow. Excuse me for a minute...
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
Okay, I feel better now. I had a really excellent practice tonight! The higher notes were less of a workout tonight, so I'm hoping tomorrow my voice is just as good, if not better than it was today!
I'm nervous...*rocks back and forth*
-
Sounds good. :D
Looking forward to hearing you sing... :P
-
Break a leg angel!!!! :bluebanger:
-
Well, here it is: www.myspace.com/joandesireejohnson
I'm not happy with how it turned out. I sound like crap. I sang excellently last night when I was just practicing, but once I got to the studio I tensed up. I sound like a scared, squeaky mouse. :(
-
The songs are a little slow perhaps, hm? Have you been in recording situations before? Probably some practise would reduce the tenseness problems... :)
-
That's possible.
All I know is I have a fscking 2.5 octave range and seven years of vocal training, and all that I managed to achieve in three hours of recording was to sound like a scared school girl singing her first solo in front of the entire school. *grumble*
-
I added the 30-second clip of Sleeping Sun that I did before I recorded in a studio. You can hear the difference between when I'm relaxed (at home) and how tense I was the first time I ever recorded in a studio.
