Glad to see you made it over here :)

But I am a little bit confused... Why did you change your name to "Thor"? Have you become a fan of Amon Amarth? *g*
I'm quite sure I've been a fan of them before you even you the band ;)
No, "Thor" has other reasons... Among others the name of the server this board runs on. The server is called "Asgard" and as you might have seen the big boss is called "Odin" ;)
The new Sonata Arctica single, Dont Say A Word...one of the best songs i heard from this band. I cant wait for Reckoning Day...yeah I know, dont start throwing tomatoes now :flush:

IMMORTAL - Where dark and light don't differ
Weird. That song completely describes my personal feelings on this sunday evening...
I still can't believe how Immortal changed between their debut and their last CD. What was noise at first ended up as the finest Black Metal in history.
Greetz,
Tex
Which album, the first or the latest are you talking about? I do not have any Immortal and would like to pick one up.
Their debut was "Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism". Unless you are a die-hard Darkthrone fan stay away from it. If you have never heard of Darkthrone, stay away from them, too.

I understand that he may have show sympathy for Al Queada, but I veiw it the same as the Catholic preists here supporting on another through the child abuse cases. The catholic religion is based on the tenant of forgiveness, I would think that would have a strong impact on how someone looks at the situation. The same with Cat Stevens, he believes in what he has learned and I beleive that defending yourself/your religion is very strong in Islam. I will agree that there are always soem factions that take it to the extreme, but we have to take that into account for peoples actions. We were discussing yesterday, that in his music you could tell that he was searching for "something" that he may have found in Islam. I can only hope that he is not in a radical faction. Nevertheless, he wrote some beautiful music.

Greetz,

Reading your reply with the greatest attention Ryan I thought it would have made things a lot easier if you just would have introduced your 'discussed posting' as being a quote of a Biogenis song...
You must admit that everyone could have thougth that was your personal view.
So please don't fly off the handle. Life is way too short to get frustrated or enerved in your free time. Live and let live. I am sure the remark of Aop was never meant as a personal attack, merely a understandable question to what or why...
You could have easily said that this was just a quote, and the discussion would have been closed; So I really do not understand the need to put things like, and I quote :
"sorry that i am american and have rights that your jelous of. the fact that i have beliefs that dont agree with yours.. but you dont see me critisizing you for yours... "
I totally fail to understand what all this has to do with it...
So please, I think we can move on after this and listen to euh...
Biogenis ??
and it is not going ot change because I sat here today and watched him make posts to topics today and not even take the time to comment about this and admit his wrongs of how he came about the hole hting...

Shadowman ---I can help you there!
Jack Frost is at the top of my list of all time favorite guitarists. This band was founded by him and is really a vehicle for his playing and composing. Brian Craig, their drummer, is awesome! (although they just got a new drummer.) My favorite vocalist of theirs was Wade Black (Crimson Glory) but all three have been good. Needless to say I'm a huge fan of this band. It hails from the US by the way.

Apocalyptica!! I am so excited they are finally coming here in March! I never thought it would happen (Thank you Rammstein for bringing them). They are only playing 5 or 6 cities. I just got tickets for New York City date. I'm really looking forward to it! From what I've seen from video, they play like monsters live!!
Oh I wish you a great gig then! They're awsome! Dudes playing Cellos and truely moshing at the same time :D it's worth seeing, in deed.

A lot of you guys seem to listen to these guys, any recommendations, albums, songs to isten to ?, I went to their website once a while ago but don't really remember what I thought of them.
They're nice to listen to if one's pissed or something, but - to me at least - that's it. Their lyrics are nice but their music is black metal of the not so exciting kind.
If you really want to check them out, you should definitely check out the more recent albums - like World Funeral (2002) from which the above song is taken - and not the earlier ones.

Hey, where did you know that from in advance?! Damn, it feels like I broke my neck about ... seven times, I think. Headbanging like hell... I was drunk even before we reached the club at all (the name was only half correct, by the way, it is "Underworld" and a really cooooool place). I am missing some... minutes, I think, from the time until 3 am, shortly before we left for home. I was really not very well by that time anymore, hehe. Lacking practice. :P

IMO: I think that Awake and Octavarium are there two best albums, with Awake being on top of the two favorites. I like the progresive metal and different variations of music that Awake displays and the reversable talent that they show in Octavarium, all in all making both albums a success imo.
as far as I&A goes, the first song that I heard came from this album, pull me under, which now im listening too, the album its self is very intellegent and as an indiviual album, was the gretest thing to have happened to the band with the coming of James LaBrie. I have to agree, that awakeis also a very strong release of DT and one of my favourites. About octavarium my oppionon is splitted. Especially the title track has a great development, rising just to a furious final and ending on the same tone as the first song begins.
But there are some tracks I do not like that much, beacuse they are imo so straight and thus "not DT-like"...

Btw: still the Images and words album is the best DT album ever in my oppinion. I know that most people like metropolis pt II - scenes from a memory best. Well, me not ;).
NP: Dream Theater - Scarred.
We all know that Charlie Dominici definatly wasnt it for the band...
I have to agree, that awakeis also a very strong release of DT and one of my favourites. About octavarium my oppionon is splitted. Especially the title track has a great development, rising just to a furious final and ending on the same tone as the first song begins.

In which I will have to agree with . there are a couple of songs that I feel are straight as well. but for Dream Theater to be able to express a song in that manor without going through all there dilerously amazing riffs and progressive rises is also a treat for me because I find that they are truely able to make a great song in straight times without getting bored. but Awake for me is the ultimate.

Hm, well for making an "ultimate" rating I think I do not know awake well enough (which has in fact to be changed). But from those DT CDs I know pretty well Images and Words is my absolute favourite, not at last because of the in my oppinion emotional very strong songs of "wait for sleep". And some songs, like "Metropolis Pt I" and "Under a Glass Moon", have nice changes between speeds and rhythms. And in some way most of the songs just touch me. I dont know why, but they do.
Edit: np: DT - Wait for sleep

nice.. most people who like dream theater dont really care for the older dream theater.. mainly because it was concidered more from the 80s "butt rock" era as most people i know refer to it.. I mean dont get me wrong.. I know many who love the older material that dream theater recorded. and personally i like much better then most of their new material.. but it seems that dream theaters fan base is so far spread in age that there is always controversy for the poor band on which direction to go from album to album.. because they are a band who has always tried to please the fans with the music being of the mold of the fans through their hearts and ability to write music, thus the creation of met. PT.2, 6 degrees and ToT, but after all the years of writting thoughs albums and the arguements between the people of different ages they wrote 8v (octavarium) as a way to show there inspiration for their own talents and love for music. finally said hey its time to stop pleasing you because we cant do that and time to start being happy again..
it really is amazing to see that such a band as Dream Theater has managed to stay together as long as they have due to the fan base control.. hate to say it as I do but truely they have let the fans lead their direction for some years now...... but none the less I will support them through anything they write and go through and will love them for who they are.. the greatest prog metal/rock band in the world....

Those are true words you wrote...well, and dont get me too wrong. 8v is a nice piece which one should have. It must was somehow surprising to get such an album from a Band like DT. Well, ok, ToT went already in that direction, being much less complex and much more straight than 6° and Metr Pt II, but nethertheless 8v was somehow surorising for me.
There is beatuiful music on it. And I am not upset with DT as they are grown ups who can do whatever they want. But when I want to hear songs like "I walk beside you" I could as well listten to Coldplay or Muse - which are cool band either. And thus 8v is not my favourite among DT as it is not hte music I expect or want to hear when thinking of them.

Some cha-cha music as I am watching the Olympics, and Ice Dancing is on!
NP: FLOGGIN MOLLY - Drunken Lullabies
I’ve been defeated and brought down
Dropped to my knees when hope ran out
The time has come to change my ways
On this day
I see clearly
Everything has come to life
A bitter place and a broken dream
And we’ll leave it all
Leave it all behind
One hit wonders is on TV at the moment-
Nena- 99 Luftballons-- has this been made into a metal version, I think it would be a great cover,it has a great hook!
I know/agree, she did pretty well over seas, but I think this countdown only takes into account American charts. And it does say that about this next band which is one of my all time favorite songs, and this would be an absolutely awesome metal/hardcorecover song !!!!!
Ah-ha- Take on me.
NP: Infernal Vengeance - Bleed for your Master
Right now im playing Misfits- dig up her bones
Oh Achilles, let thy arrows fly

BTW, my 1st post here, yello.
They think our heads are in their hands

Gert Heidenreich, reading Paolo Coelho - Danke Mr President
