From the warm south to the cold North, only a smalll step for Bleeding for Metal :)
So again, the meaning of these lines of topics is to know a bit more about the way of life in countries where the bleeding fans live.
So when I think of Sweden I think of :
Euh, very little I must admit...
ok there is my friend Karl Beckham from Infernal Vengeance,
I know a few cities, only by name though : Göteborg, Stockholm, Malmö
Quite some really nice metalbands of course : Hammerfall, Falconer, Dream Evil...
ABBA ! :D Even remerber the names from my childhood days, Björn, Benny, Agnetha, Annafrid. The blonde from Abba was quite a hottie when I was twelve...
So what else ?
Ikea ! Saab ! Astrid Lindgren !
And I know it is quite a rough sea between Denmark and Sweden because my brother in law once visited Sweden and it was all he talked about of that trip !
Now the name ?? Skaggarak ? Something similar I think...
That is all for now, will remember other stuff (I hope) as others join in...
-
... I don't know if I'm even supposed to answer this ;D
But, let's but some together:
Tons and tons of stupid Swed-jokes, as every finn.
Love the old town in Stockholm.
Hate the S-verbs.
Warmer weather than we because of the Gulf... *mrr*
And there is a rumor that you'd have cheaper (put any alcohol here) than we, and that's what makes finns angry with you
-
And there is a rumor that you'd have cheaper (put any alcohol here) than we, and that's what makes finns angry with you
Que??? I must have missed something here. As far as I know the booz is way more expensive over here. Anyway, we just have to meet and have a great party to figure that out. Right!? :)
ok there is my friend Karl Beckham
Beckman if you don't mind ;)
Anyway, this is going to be really interesting. :)
-
Yeah!
(There are a lot of rumours here about sweds this and that, which almost everytime contain a stupid joke too ;) )
-
Yeah!
(There are a lot of rumours here about sweds this and that, which almost everytime contain a stupid joke too ;) )
Heh... It's like Sweden and Norway I suppose.
-
You're all one loving familiy up there in Scandinavia, aren't you? ;)
It's pretty much like with us and the Austrians and the people from Switzerland or with the people from Scotland, Ireland and England I suppose ;)
On topic: Well, I'm almost ashamed, but I don't have much to add which hasn't been mentioned already.
Astrid Lindgren was one of my first thoughts also, like many others I grew up with her books and stories and the movies about her books.
For some reason I also think about chocolate, when thinking about Sweden. Is it "Mjölk chocolate" (milk chocolate) or something? :) Very tasty, though I only know it because I bought it at Ikea some time ;)
When talking about Sweden, metal has to be mentioned of course: "Sweden Death" as description for maybe the most perfect symbiosis of melody and aggression, bands like IN FLAMES, DARK TRANQUILLITY, CARCASS or ARCH ENEMY...
Hm, I suppose that's all I have so far.
-

Yes we are.
-
Hm, I suppose that's all I have so far.
Yeah, difficult one right ?
Isn't it strange we know so little about a country yet so farely close to us ?
-

In a way you're right, but on the other hand it's not bad either. In my opinion it rather tells us that Sweden is a country where everything is quite discreet. Sweden appears to be a country of understatement, which might be the reason why I always felt strongly attracted by it (no shit).
In fact, there's a lack of stereotypes because if there wasn't we would have more of them at hand, wouldn't we?
Well, and while writing this two further aspects came to my mind:
-> The murder at Ana Lindh
-> One of Europe's most violent right wing extremist scenes
-
sweedish meat balls and hot chicks in short skirts and blonde braided pony tails. can it really be true!!!
really dont know anything about the country.. just thought to be funny...

The trade sounds good to me. :)
What kind of Swedish movies do you look at?
-
This is going to sound cheesy...
When I think of Sweden I think of my great, great grandparents, (and other ancestors). My great-great-grandparents left Sweden for the US. In fact, GGgrandmother followed GGgrandfather over here because she wanted to marry him. I also think about the land that runs in my blood and how I HAVE TO SEE IT.
/cheese
I also think of HammerFall, Falconer, and some of the most awesome metal the world has ever seen. ;)
-
Not cheesy at all ! The true stories are the best !
A woman following her man all across the globe ! Touching !
Hope you make it to Sweden one day to walk on your ancestor's land !
But if you ever do, write a song of that expericience and send it to Infernal Vengeance !
Sure Karl can do something with that theme !!
:P
-
When I think of Sweden, I think of some weird things.
Julmust (*phatooooooey!*)
Cold, dark Stockholm winters (gets light about 9:30 in the morning, dark around 3 or 3:30 in the afternoon)
The midnight sun and northern lights, both of which I missed when living/visiting there :-/
Great punk/hardcore in the 80s
The "Gothenburg sound"
Entire public busses going silent to listen to the American girl speaking English
Unpronouncable words, including the word for the number 7 (sju)
Beautiful country
The first place I ever felt completely "at home"
IKEA
The stereotype of the Swedish sex toy industry that pervails in the US but doesn't seem to exist in Sweden
H&M (first time I experienced it was in Stockholm, too bad they've gone downhill in recent years)
Lucia day

Hahaha! I'm horrid at songwriting. I just sing them, I can't write them.

The stereotype of the Swedish sex toy industry that pervails in the US but doesn't seem to exist in Sweden
Probably because most sex toys are from either Texas or California and US citizens don't want to admit it, so they blame the Swedes.
:)
Greetz,
Tex

Exactly! They think of Sweden as being some free-sex society, with sex happening on every street corner! ;) It couldn't be that way in Texas, nuh-uh!!
-
Unpronouncable words, including the word for the number 7 (sju)
My friend Mimmi would die laughing trying to get me to count to ten.....fyra (four) was also hysterical!!!!
-
Swedish for newbies.

Sweden, ahhhh, would love to have a summer home there
We had such a nice time when we went to SwedenRock, an awesome festival, westayed in Olafstrom and drove up to Stockholm.
When I think of Sweden I think of:
Our friend MImmi, who is red haired, not as many blondes as one might think there
Blacksmiths
Noble Prize Museum, awesome place......
Lilacs, they just seemed to be everywhere, what a smell....
Extremely freindly, in a matter of fact way, people
the VASA, cool, really cool!!!
The Venice of the north, Stockholm!
Gothenberg
Some really great bands......Amon Amarth , Arch Enemy , Candlemass- (sat with them on the plane ride home, behind thier fat tour manager, ughhhhh!), Dark Funeral , Dark Tranquillity , Dionysus , Dream Evil , Evergrey - (met them at PiornoRock, they were pretty cool, just haning out in the crowd watching the rest of the show), Falconer - (what can be said that already hasn't), Fatal Smile-(this ones for MetalMaiden), HammerFall, The Haunted ,Idiot-(for Metalmaiden!), In Flames, Mithotyn , Nocturnal Rites , Opeth, Persuader, Soilwork, Tad Morose, Therion, Wolf, did I forget anyone.................Ah yes some Infernal band......
Swedish Meatballs
IKEA/H&M, now over here as well
E4 and Cliff Burton.....RIP
Progressive Mental Health System
National Healthcare, which I know many countries have as well
Volvo and Saab
Practical thinking and very honest
Whew............
-
K.Beckman, that's awful dude! I can't figure it out ;D Perhaps the mistake is in my english appronounzning ;D
Wondered about it like for 10 minutes... Nah, guess I'm just too stupid for that kinda things :P
-
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
How could have I forgotten Yngwie?!?!??!?!?!
-

My friend Mimmi would die laughing trying to get me to count to ten.....fyra (four) was also hysterical!!!!
Did you ever manage to get sju out? ;) That was people's favorite party trick to try on me when I was there.
I wasn't ever able to manage the required perkiness for hej and tack - I guess I'd make a bad Swede!! :whatever:

Saying "hi" and "thanks" in Swedish is supposed to be perky? I had no idea.

-
After trying so hard to learn Swedish not needing to use it there because it seemed everyone spoke English and wanted to practise speaking it with their American visitors. haha
Warm people, willing and helpful but never intrusive. Honest and straight forward. Some of my dearest friends.
Green. Farms. Houses neat and tidy with floweres and plants and satelite dishes EVERYWHERE...It seemed like the whole country is connected to the internet! The most beautiful and bountiful Lilacs I've ever seen (my favorite flower). Stances of White Birch and Pines so tall...taller than I have EVER seen them anywhere else. Fish, Produce...vegetables that are natural and out of this worlds tasting,,,the tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers, I can taste them now! And I think the BEST breads I have EVER tasted. The first wild boar I've eaten.
Well maintained roads and awesome mass-transit system. Massive factory buildings that appear out of nowhere while drinving through the countryside. Old world and new beautifully blended. 1000+ year old churches, beautiful functional modern archetectural buildings...I am sure this is true all over Europe, but it is just amazing to me as our oldest standing structures here are only a few hunded years old.
Viking red. Forged iron work and a blacksmith named Martin.
Per capita it seems one of the most prolific rock (that's music not stones) producing countries. I must add to the already mentioned and long list so far a few unmentioned (thanx Metal RN ) or less known bands I love -- Silent Scythe, Assailant, Daytona, Praetorian Platoon, The Kristet Ulseende, Axen Hillock, Sportlov.....I could go on and on....
-

He was the nicest guy, and helped us tremendously with our Christmas shopping!!!

Umeå, Norsjö

Just trying to imagine...
<THOUGHT_BUBBLE>
A bank in a small village, somewhere in Finland. The door is being slammed open and an obviously female person is coming in, green hair and beard visible under a black ski mask. In an offensive gesture, she points her beard at the man at the counter:
"Give me all the money and no one gets hurt."
</THOUGHT_BUBBLE>
:D
Anyways, glad you're not gonna hurt me with yours, I really appreciate that :)

Thanks for the plan! I was indeed in need of money!

Dunno, I asked Mimmi and she was not sure what it was, though she admits after 19 years here she may be missing something......

Imagination gone wild there for a sec dude ?
:D
Can understand that ! Virvatuli's face can do strange things to a men's mind..

Oh man, I <3 Absolut Vodka! Best. Vodka. EVER. Though I am a bit biased because that's all my Mom ever drinks as far as Vodka, AND it's from Sweden. (A little nationality pride thing, for me. *waves her Swedish flag*)
I have got to visit this country soon.
-
Shadow... Well, come here, take a picture of me, then do all the work to get it the right sized and put it on here. Right?

Anyway...
Let me clear this up. It was exactly that I meant Metalmaiden. And you chould say it like this: Buys ee chairten (bajs i stjärten), which mean: shit in the butt. Hi, hi, hi... :lol2:
Is'nt that funny?

I totally agree AngelOfMusic. Swedish people have to be proud for Absolut and Bathory both!!!
-
@ Shadow- if your camera fails I have one!!!
-
@ Karl- so you are constipated?!?!?!?!
-
Why is Tex always the one to make sure that Shadow remembers his wife? Am I mad or do I see a link there...
And shadow, you can sleep in the closet. And I don't think that many finnish girls have green beards, so you probably point me out quite easily.
And for Karl, that's even worse, now that I know what you were meaning (and they say that finnish men have bad sense of humour *duh*). I only got the stjärten part correctly :D
-
Why is Tex always the one to make sure that Shadow remembers his wife? Am I mad or do I see a link there...
A running gag that started on the old boards. Whenever Shadow seemed to have forgotten his marital status, I reminded him.
:)
Greetz,
Tex
Another running gag is that Ryan always calls me 'dad' and I call him 'son'.

Back to this topic's subject : How could I forget : one of our most important clients (I work in a printing factory) is swedish :
Yves Rocher division Sweden.
We ship quite a few Europalets of Yves Rocher folders to Helsingborg on a daily basis.
And when I look at the photos on these brochures : wow... the Swedish women are A OK !!
Can you confirm that one for me Karl ?

Conclusions based on advertisements are not a good idea, shadow ;)
It's not that likely for any company to use "the average guy/girl next door" for their ads...
-
ok there is my friend Karl Beckham
Beckman if you don't mind ;)
Uhh, wasn't it Backman or Backfernal in fact? :lol2:

True. He, he, he...

You little...

So Karl, have you got yet some nice juicy stuff about your home country we haven't talked about ?
Or things you simply MUST add to all our crap ?
-
Hm.. I think you guys had said the most things. But no one mentioned the polar bears ;) .
Here is some more things:
Sven Göran Eriksson (football coach for England), Eriksson (cell phone), You talked abou pretty girls, but all the good looking dudes? (http://www.infernalvengeance.com/KarlBeckman/images/6.jpg) Snus (tobac you put under your upper lip. I use it and it taste good), Göran Persson (the prime minister). Our international great bands: Roxette, Cardigans, The Hives. There is more but I can't remember right now. I'll get back.
-
Ouch, we forgot some pretty obvious things there.
I even use a cell phone from Ericsson, though it's a Sony Ericsson in fact...
Thanks for enlightening us, Karl!
-
No problem :)
-
Ah, Snus, yes, how could I forget about that... in February we had two members of SPARZANZA sleeping here after a gig we organized for them an HELL'N'DIESEL and they all consumed it like ... sweets or whatever. :)
-

Did you try it?
-
You talked abou pretty girls, but all the good looking dudes?
Mmm... you said GOOD looking dudes man...

As I don't smoke, I didn't try Snus either. But we had a lot of fun with some guys of ANCIENT EXISTENCE, they did not play that night, but they were around working hard on their reputation as one of the most extreme drinking bands... really young guys, don't like them personally (but their sound kills!), so I really enjoyed one of them trying a big portion of Snus... muahaha, he was pretty drunk already, put a good load under his lip ("Aahhh, I'm so hard, I can take anything...") and rushing to the toilet not long after throwing up most of what he consumed throughout the day (and maybe the day before, hehehe). :P
-
Want to make a final conclusion Karl ?
Wrap it up if you'd like to... last word is on you !
-

Well, what can I say? There's not much left to mention, you guys have said it all. All I can say is, good work. *thumb up*

Oh, I almoast forgot, The Nobel Prize, of course.
And we have the Polar Music Prize.
Than we have the famous Royal Galley "Wasa". (You know, the Falconer song.)
We have monarchy (and all they do is making fools of them selfs).
Stockholm is our capital.
We ure Kronor insted of euro. Today 1 Eur = 8.96 Sek.
