As there will probably be some interviews popping up here and there in a not too distant future, I thought it would be nice to gather as many as possible here.

Maybe you've seen this one already:

The wordplay is okay, although I've heard that very often :P

But yeah, Metalstorm using the oldphotos is... irritating a bit.

Well, we had a very nice 26-minutes talk! I was a bit nervous about the recording stuff, because it's a new device, but it's all on there - very fine, phew. :)

That will take some time to get done. And I will cut it, pick out the really interesting stuff.

Thanks again, Stefan. It was again a pleasure to talk to you!

Blinded not a ten point song? :o It's one of my faves from the album :P

Also, what is meant by "German-chorus"? I haven't heard that term before and I'm rather curious.

Great interview btw :) Interesting read. Thanks.

That "german chorus" thing is a reference to an older interview, I think.
Stefan announced back then, that there would be a song on the new album, that would make the german power metalheads perfectly happy :)
So that's why Odin asks about that "german chorus".

At least that's how I interpreted it.

They seem to like to sing along to the melodic chorusses...

Right. The genesis of this term is a little longer:

First live appearances of FALCONER in Germany --> they were stunned by the way and intensity the metalheads here sing along for example 'The Clarion Call' and (all the) other songs.

In the interview about "Grime..." Stefan told me that they called the chorus of 'Humanity Overdose' the "German Chorus". So I wondered what they think is the German chorus on this album now.

Hint: Do read all my interviews with Stefan! There's a good load meanwhile, haha... :D

About 'Blinded': I don't agree with Stefan there, either. I really dig that one. As I do dig the other songs. :)

Hmm, Stefan said that Falconer was NOT a Power Metal band. I must disagree, Power/Folk is clearly the most suitable definition IMHO.

"Power Metal" is almost a dirty word(s) in Sweden it would seem.

I know that HammerFall, Lost Horizon, Heed and now Falconer reject the term, four bands I would definitely consider different types of Power Metal. It all comes down to interpretation - I guess to a lot of people Power Metal just means la-de-da ultra-fruity keyboard drowned stuff like Freedom Call, Rhaposdy and Power Quest (bands I like). I don't personally agree with that, though.

Yes, those people are pretty much wrong, those kind of bands are what give meaning to the term Flower Metal. :P ;)

I would say that there are four main categories of Power Metal. This definition is home-made so don't laugh at it...

The thrashy Power with bands like Iced Earth and Morgana Lefay
The Flower Metal, represented by Freedom Call and Rhapsody
The Classic Power with roots in Heavy/Traditional Metal with Hammerfall and Helloween

and then there is another one which I don't know what to call but contains bands like
Blind Guardian, Falconer, Savage Circus and Kamelot.

I am listening to about 40 PM-bands so I'm not a true expert, but I base this opinion on that. And of course bands must not be entirely in one of these categories...

But the PM hate is interesting. Except those mentioned earlier Children of Bodom were shitting their pants a few months ago when they were called PM. I would say that the Metal Archives definition of them is quite accurate: Speed/Power Metal with harsh vocals.

P.M. for me is equal to a demand for those double bass drums hammering around all the time.
I don't like the pressure to have fast songs because some consider us to be a PM band.
It can sometimes feel limiting to be valued from a certain genre bound perspective.

I guess that's why I don't like to admit it although I can understand our labeling.

Labels are for products.
Music is creativity, emotion and energy. That cannot be labeled!

Yeah, I sometimes use these genre names too, but only because it's easier to describe a certain kind of sound or music a band does.
But relating a band to a particular genre is difficult since most bands have many influences in their music nowadays.

I personally would describe Falconers music as melodic/power metal with a medieval tone.
