My next tattoo-task will be the upper back. I have the drawing ready and all, but not the money. My guess is that it will cost me about: 1,660 - 2,210 eur. Huh. alot of money :(

Sheeeesh... I am still hesitating to shell out about 100 - 300 Euros for my first tattoo... would probably endanger me to really like it and want more, hehe. ;)

I don't think I posted this before. I have a butterfly too. But my butterfly isn't in a cage. It's free, free, free....on the top of my foot.
Actually it is a cover up of an old, very dark ink, and not very pretty tattoo.

Tattoos are so damned expensive :-/ If they weren't....I'd be working on sleeves now! Ah well.
Here's the latest one, which was done as a memorial to my mom. Last year was the 10th anniversary of her death. The teddy bear is because her nickname was teddie. I'm not usually such a girlie-fashion type, but it was appropriate for this :)

Since i cannot post yet some picts ,can i at least describe them , plleeeaaasee?
I have two, one (which is a very small one ) on my left arm made when i was 17, and one
( a big one) on my left thigh. The one on my arm stands for my sign (Pisches) but everybody takes it for the two diversed E (epsilon) that represent the mystic EL society (where EL stand for Ellines). Before anyone says anything about the theme (Pisches and all) i have to tell you that this tat was made with 3 needles attached to a wooden clip used to hang wet clothes (help somebody with the right word!!!) . OHHH THE PAIN!!! See when you all had tattoo parlors, here in Greece we had only one in Athens , and since i'm from Thessaloniki... get my point??? .. Back then it was the only way of getting a tat, if you really wanted to..
As for the one (made when i was 25) on my thigh , well i just cannot describe it , as it looks like a flying sea peackock - ha ha ha !! really need to see it!!!
And i must add that i'm extremely happy that one of my best friends has a tattoo parlor in Thessaloniki nowadays , so i can get as many free tats as i please!!!

Very nice. I adore the bird's blue green "Peacock blue" color. I know it is seen as a bird of protection by some as well as a symbol of harmony and joy. Does it have a special meaning for you?

Next week friday will see me under the needles for the first time... Fixed the date today, a little nervous already. :shock:
The b/w tattoo will cover most of my right upper arm and will be done in at least two sessions. For the first session the outlines are planned to be done. This will take about 3-4 hours. Shadings will follow later on. Whoohoooo, can't wait!! But next week friday was the first possible date. *sigh* :roll:

That wife-to-be of mine *giggle* is looking forward to it as well. Beside that she would always state her opinion, but never try to influence my decisions. We're open and honest to each other, speak our thoughts and minds, but never influence the freedom of one another (hm, hope it's getting clear what I'm trying to say ;) ).
I have been thinking and dreaming of a tattoo (or two, or so... ;) ) for years already. Now the time and situation has come I can make it come true. The first one will be no special image or so but kind of a tribal. I decided to put this one before the major plan of a symbolic picture I thought of just today. Start with an "easy" one (gotta be very confident and sure it will come out perfect for the other one) for now. ;)

Why should I? On saturday Sarah drew some outlines of a tribal on the area to be covered by the tattoo and I really loved the feeling of having something in my view there all the time (just an example and proof for myself ;) ).
And I am longing for something like that for so long already...

A good tattoo is a nice thing to have, I bet.
Still, right now I'm unpierced and untattoed and actually considered staying that way.
BUT... of course I've also had times when I thought about these things.
A tattoo would be interesting, but it would take a really good motive to get me want to have it.
I'd like to design one but my drawing abilities are kinda poor. But I got some ideas.
I'd like to have something symbolic, with some (hidden?) meaning.
Maybe something written in Sanscrit (indian influence) combined with some celtic symbols (european influence) or something.
It's kinda hard to come up with something satisfying.
That's why this topic is just a "vague possibility" for me :)

It's so funny to read along the stories of people who thought they had something like "Eternal love" or "Power, Strength, Influence" tattoed, while in fact they only serve as free ad sign for "Chicken sweet-and-sour" or will forever be branded as "stupid foreigner".
In an earlier post (around late april if I'm not completely mistaken) that guy wrote something like "If you're not absolutely sure what a certain sign means in a foreign language, why don't you just have the words you wanted written in your own language and signs?"
And @Odin, one last remark: I ask for everyones forgiveness for these words which will without a doubt sound harsh but come straight from the heart: Tattoos in that size and at that particular location might fit certain people with certain levels of education and certain kinds of jobs. I know some of those from the days back at work and I almost liked them more than any other people I ever had to work with and yes, both of them were metalheads. But they were neither well-educated nor did they work in good jobs nor did they have much of a perspective. They both were (very) hard working and honest people (the best in that particular part of the company, the best of a group of about 16).
Call me square, but in my narrow mind it's just something that doesn't fit.
But as said earlier: What ever suits you. I'm not the person to stand between people and their peace of mind.

But I am absolutely against stereotypes and prejudices. Still I'll try to have the tat places in a way it can be covered by a t-shirt. "Most of the upper arm" means it starts high up and goes down to about the half of the upper arm, so it's placed from the shoulder to a part of the side of the bizeps or something... you will see. ;)

Yeah but things might change, right? :) I mean, 50 years ago women wear Jeans. 20 years ago, if you had a piercing or a tattoo, people thought of you as junk and were afraid of you. I don't say that it is a lot different these adays, but it might change ;) But what changes need, is some one to push them...

Yeah but that is a stereotype/perception that is hard to change. To present all of my tattoos are able to be hidden by clothes while at work.I would love to have a sleeve done, but for now I am looking at getting some more on my back. It is an unfortunate reality of working. So much of business is done with first impressions in mind. I am not saying that is right, just an inevitability.
Having said that, All right Odin, welcome to the ranks!!! If you have thought about it for a while, trust in your jugdement. (Don't listen to that square :P :wink: hehe) Looking forward to seeing it.

I can't believe in this day and age that people are being judged and stereotyped by their wearing of tattoos. Maybe it is just because they are so popular here in the US. Everyone has them from musicians (Rapper and Metallers and all in between) and athlete to college kids and middle aged conservatives, male and female. Even grandmas are getting tattooed! These days to make a statement and be different you choose NOT to get a tattoo. But maybe things are different in other places. There are also those who don't get them because they are forbidden by their religion.
As to tattoos being private...Hmmm, well some are and some aren't. I mean traditionally they were a sign of rank or honor or attainment of manhood etc. and were meant to be seen. Mine are symbolic and personal but also convey a message about who I am as well as being self adornment. I can conceal them if I choose or let them be seen. I've had the butterfly on the top of my foot for 30 years, its me, and I still love it. (and I love the summer when I can go around barefoot with my little butterfly out for all the world to see.) I find work like our own Karl's (Infernal Vengeance) for example very atractive and beautiful. However I am really disgusted and turned off by Travis Barker's (Blink 182) tattoos.
Of course I really like body adornment and am in awe of many tribal traditions. I find facial scarification really beautiful though I would never do something like that as it isn't culturally accepted here and I really don't want to live outside of society (Have you heard about the guy who is trying to grow horns? I don't think he'll be waiting on you at the bank anytime soon :lol: ) And there is a big difference between choosing to do it and being held down and having it forced upon you with a dull, rusty knife.
Then there is also that whole psychological pain thing that revolves around this as well. Finding that Zen place and letting the endorphins flood your being .....I don't think you'll find me hanging from hooks anytime soon (although as someone who has done meditation for over 30 years now I am curious) or getting branded.
I do caution young people to consider placement before they get one. At 18 it may seem like having "Fuck You" on you knuckles is a good idea because you can't see yourself yet as a professional working person out in the world. Of course I told that to my own son and so where did he put them? the inside of his lower arms. He already been forced to wear long sleeved shirts at work to conform to dress codes at jobs. Personally I didn't think that is right but that is the way the world works and after all, there are consequences to all of our choices!!
Odin, you are old enough and wise enough to know what you want. And seeing as you have thought about it and wanted it for a long time I am sure you will not regret it. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

If i want to get a tat , i'll get it no matter what other people say or may react about it.
I didn't care when i was 17 when i had my first tat and at that time there was a general notion in Greece that only prisoners or sailors had tattoos (considering the way they were made). :shock:
I guess i was ahead of my time.I regarded tats with a completely different perspective. And i still do. (I had to deal with my students and my students' parents with the tat on my arm-they noticed it ofcourse asked some questions, maybe hated it but still never damaged neither my work ,nor my image).
And the size doesn't matter either. Some people like big tats some like small ones.It really doesn't make any difference to me. I just wanted to point out that by having one (or more) you just do it for yrself, cause YOU like it,want it there ON YOUR skin.You don't do it for others to see, or to prove/show/state that you are something that others are not.I too enjoy summer time, the only time of the year in which my tat is exposed for others to see.
But i wouldn't care less if they ever did at all.And byt that i hope that i've made myself more clear now.
P.S.: Years went by and tats became a fashion in Greece..haha imagine that?

Well, I stayed hard and sticked to my wish. The first part is done and looks f*cking great! 8)

Sorry for the delayed update, but I spent the last two nights and the whole day with my girlfriend. This will be a short update on the tattoo thing as we are going to a breakfast buffet with some friends at 12 o’clock already.
The first session lastet 3 hours. After the first hour the outlines where finished (surprisingly quick for me, but there was more to follow as you can see…). The first hits by the needles where… ouch. I knew it would hurt, of course, and I did not expect it to be harmless, but experiencing the actual needles was special still. Especially the loooooong outer lines did made me think “oh, fuck….” and gave me the taste of blood in my mouth. And it stayed hard, but I got used to it and did not whinge, haha.
First break after the outlines were finished. After a while tiny drops of blood appeared out of all the needle holes on the lines. A pity I did not have the camera with me for that was a really cool image.
Filling out the black areas followed (outlines and inner background) and took the next two hours with another break in between. The best feeling was coming home and removing the blood soaked foils. After doing so the arm could relax a lot and I felt very comfortable and happy. Looks great so far! No pics for the public, yet, because it is not finished yet! The shadings are dated in two weeks, Friday 24th.
Healing goes surprisingly well and quick, looks really good. Can’t wait to get it finished. :)
To get a rough impression of size and position, I might post a blurred pic later on, we will see. For now: It’s about 23 centimeters in height and roughly 20 centimeters in width at the cross part (the overall basic form is a cross).
To sum it up: It’s a real challenge to get it done, but it’s worth every needle. :)

Thanks Metalmaiden :D , well its a little bit bigger then the dragon tattoo, i think 15cm or someting, i think in 40 minutes it finished, there are purple and green colors in, but not that much colors, just a little bit.
but its not done, the dragon at my other arm i want flames above the dragon over my shoulders...... so i am still not finished.

My dated last friday did not take place unfortunately, had something different to see (you wouldn't believe me anyway ;) ). No new date for the last session yet, but I want to have it done asap! Will try to get a new date again today...

Well, I am not ashamed of it, but I thought nobody would believe it anyway...
But as I think of The Metal RN's experience with ballerina outfits, I think I can give it a try. :twisted:
We were at the opera, last show of a fairytale ballet. Amusing and enjoyable, really, had a lot of fun sitting in the second row with good view into the orchestra pit as well as onto the stage. The long haired kettledrum player was cool to watch for example (tuning his kettledrums as well as pounding them). :P

So i can tell about my tatoo... I´ ve got a little tribal in my neck, so when I will see it, I have to use two mirrors. It´s a guarantee, that I will never look against it :wink:
It´s really old and needs some new black colour, but I even have not enough time for all the other things I would like to do and this is not on the topic of my list... :(

Oh and by the way: Yesterday the shadings have been drawn finally. Ouch... took only have an hour, but it did hurt and bleed even more than the first three hours. ;)
At the moment it looks like there is some red in the shadows, but that's just my swollen skin, hehe. So stay tuned a little longer... :roll:

I believe there's an empty space in the file name (%20 entity?) and the board software can't handle those. Use the "show image"-function from Firefox' right-click menu. That should work fine.

Thanks AoP, no problem. I know this far too good from myself. I usually forget half the things I want to do and making a list doesn't help either because I am forgetting what I wanted to write down there.
@Metailmaiden: Thanks as well. I didn't know that about the Aborigines/Native Americans, but turtles are my fav animals and it might sound silly, but I have the feeling they are the other part of my soul. Then I looked for pics and I found the tribal ones much to my liking.
It was not too big, not too small and no colour.

I am not sure if I ever want to get another one. It wasn't that it did hurt any, but it seems I have no patience. It took about one hour to get done, but for me it was horrible to lie still so long. I kept looking at the clock, thinking when is he going to be finished? *lol*
