Your anthem
« am: April 15, 2006, 10:43:16 Nachmittag »
Hey,

it came to my mind that I found the perfectly fitting song for my personal anthem. I mean, imagine you were a professional boxer. Of course you have to choose an anthem to be played when you enter the hall, looking grim and fierce and meanacing, right? That anthem should fit you and convey some strength, power and danger.

So, I would definitely choose one of my absolute faves:

AC/DC - 'TNT'

...women to the left of me,
and women to the right
Ain't got no gun
Ain't got no knife
But don't you start no fight

Cause I'm TNT I'm dynamite
TNT and I'll win the fight
TNT I'm a power load
TNT watch me explode!

:D

What would be your choice?
God of Wisdom, God of War
Inspiration, Madness, Anger
The Wanderer among mortals
Bringer of eternal victory

Hm, guess I'm too complicated and indecisive to have one definite choice at hand. Additionally, this question is just a new version of the "which song(s) do/does stand for power/sadness/joy/frustration/whatever in your opinion", all questions I usually can't answer definitely because there's too many coming to my mind usually.
Beyond that, "personal anthem" in which context? Just an entrance theme for a possible life as  a boxer/wrestler/$other_sportsguy or should there be some "relation" to one's real life?

However, among the first songs that came to my mind were:
MANOWAR - Number 1:
-> http://darklyrics.com/lyrics/manowar/louderthanhell.html#5

MANOWAR - The Power
Zitat

[...]
This power's greater than love and of hate
This is the power of will and of fate
The power to kill the power to feel
[...]
None can fight the power none can fight the wind
[...]

and
METALLICA - Motorbreath
-> http://darklyrics.com/lyrics/metallica/killemall.html#3
Zitat

Motorbreath
It's how I live my life
I can't take it any other way
Motorbreath
The sign of living fast
It is going to take
Your breath away

Don't stop for nothing it's full speed or nothing
I am taking down you know whatever is in my way

and
METALLICA - Damage Inc.
Zitat

Dealing out the agony within
charging hard and no one's gonna give in
Living on your knees, conformity
or dying on your feet for honesty
Inbred, our bodies work as one
bloody, but never cry submission
Following our instinct not a trend
go against the grain until the end

Blood will follow blood
Dying time is here
Damage Incorporated

Slamming through, don't fuck with razorback
stepping out? You'll feel our hell on your back
Blood follows blood and we make sure
life ain't for you and we're the cure
Honesty is my only excuse
Try to rob us of it, but it's no use
Steamroller action crushing all
Victim is your name and you shall fall

Blood will follow blood
Dying time is here
Damage Incorporated

We chew and spit you out
we laugh, you scream and shout
All flee, with fear you run
You'll know just where we come from

Damage Incorporated

Great also (but has been used before for exactly that purpose):
DROWNING POOL - The Game

Another thought while we're at it: Think about Henry Maske's entrance theme (VANGELIS - Conquest of Paradise). Neither aggressive music nor lyrics but I'm quite sure most of his opponents weren't too happy when they got to hear it. It's very majestic and powerful and seems to demand respect and awareness from everyone who's close enough to hear it.

Can't have just one song.. ;) But... If I was  a boxer, I would want everyone to believe I'm mean and raw and violent, so I'd pick a song from Ajattara.. x)

Otherwise I might just as well pick Ensiferum - Abandoned
"I am fighting and screaming alone
inside this empty room
They let you down, threw you in the rain
They let you down, sent you away... "

x) We finns are sooo damn jolly ;)

I've written my own anthem.  I call it "Catoupe (The Song of the Crazy Cat Lady)"

I am the Crazy Cat Lady

Furry bodies sprawl about
soaking up sun, drinking the milk
The house stinks, they crowd the sinks
The louts eat and breed and poop.

EVERYWHERE.

I am the BALD Crazy Cat Lady

So I thought, "why not?"
At least half of them are comatose
(Goddammit, you get off my toast!!!)
and I need some hair. I've had an idea, and it's hot!

CATOUPE!!!

Ginger, black or grey,
comatose cats are great toupes!
It's festive, it's jolly
(DAMMIT! Don't eat the holly! Filthy buggers...)

CATOUPE!!!

They're interchangeable for any season
Black, white, green (don't ask about that last one, you don't want to know...)
you don't need a reason!
If you need hair, you can wear one anywhere.

CATOUPE!!!

Haha, you are so gonna turn into a songwriter one day, AoM :)

Btw, is this also the song you are going to sing and send to NW? ;)

Isn't there a "t" and an "e" missing in "cattoupee"?

SCRRRNR :D

Nice lyrics though, but I have to admit I think about Blink 182 and alikes when reading them ;)

No, because "cat" combines with "toupe" to be "catoupe" and it doesn't need an extra e.  The spelling with only one e is also correct.  I checkced. ;)

@Virv:  Hahaha, noooooo, I'm a horribly lyricist.  The "Catoupe" poem is the first bit of poetry I've written that I don't feel is absolute crap.

lol but I also checked "toupee" and that's accurate, too.

The English language is weird like that.

Except "Toupe" is just a hair piece, whereas at "Toupee" is a partial wig or hair piece, and also a curl or lock of hair worn during the 1800's.  Not really MUCH difference.

i put my faith in god and my trust in you
now there's nothing more fucked up i could do
wish there was something real wish there was something true
wish there was something real in this world full of you
i'm the one without a soul i'm the one with this big fucking hole
no new tale to tell twenty-six years on my way to hell
gotta listen to your big time hard line bad luck fist fuck
don't think you're having all the fun
you know me i hate everyone
WISH- Nine Inch Nails

and since today is 4-20 (damn pot heads  ) and a certain bunch of people at school ruined it for everyone (and im feeling evil):

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor Beaten why for
Can't take much more
One - Nothing wrong with me
Two - Nothing wrong with me
Three - Nothing wrong with me
Four - Nothing wrong with me
One - Something's got to give
Two - Something's got to give
Three - Something's got to give
Now
Let the bodies hit the floor
Push me again
This is the end
Skin against skin blood and bone
You're all by yourself but you're not alone
You wanted in now you're here
Driven by hate consumed by fear
Let the bodies hit the floor
BODIES- Drowning Pool

and no, im not insane :P

and nice lyrics AOM
