This might become a cool movie. The books which the film's script is based upon are awesome!

I totally loved the books.
Note: The story is not really taking place in the Viking age but about 100-150 years later.
A swedish boy who becomes a templar to put it short.

Oh cool!

Are there English translations of the books?
By whom are they and what are they called?

It's been some time since I had a good read ;)

Yes, they're available in English (and several other languages, I gather).
The three books about Arn and his adventures are called "The road to Jerusalem" (1998), "The Knight Templar" (1999) and "The kingdom at the end of the road" (2000), and they immediately became extremely popular by both ordinary readers and critics. And then there is a fourth book which is called "Arvet efter Arn" ("Arn's heir"), but I don't know if it's available in English.

They're written by Jan Guillou, a renowned (at least in Sweden) writer. He's written a lot of thrillers/action novels about a Swedish agent called Carl Hamilton as well.
You can find info about Guillou (in English) here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Guillou

You should give them a go. They're really great! I hope the English translations do them justice.

If the film becomes a international success, I think this might turn into a new era in Swedish film making. It's the most expensive Swedish film production ever - 200 000 000 SKr (about 20 000 000 Euro).

I think these books has inspired you a lot Stefan, haven't they?

Yeah. SVT (the main Swedish tv channel who's been one of the main sponsors) doesn't seem to be too impressed.

Oh, I'm sorry :) I forgot to translate, guess I was too upset...
Yeah, what Black Knight said, they apparently think the quality is too low...

It seems though according to this article:

http://www.dr.dk/Nyheder/Kultur/2007/08/07/004656.htm

That all the footage has been filmed and the director states, he doesn't think SVT's decision to pull out of the project will at all risk the films not being made.
We'll see how this develops...

A devastating review and look on the swedish film industry - well written and honest, I feel.
