I didn't drink hardly at all (wine on occasion with my parents) until I turned 21.  Why?  Because my parents didn't drink like idiots, nor did they treat alcohol as if it were the most evil substence on Earth.  If I wanted to try a sip of what they were drinking, they let me.  Honestly, because I COULD have it, and I was given enough trust that I wouldn't be stupid, I didn't drink as a minor.

I got lucky, with awesome parents. :)

That is a prime example of showing how to responsibly enjoy alcohol, that also takes most of the "rebellion" out of it for teenagers. Modeling is a very important teaching tool.

The only reason I didn't "rebel" is because I had no reason to!  My curfew until I was 17 was 11PM, and even then I was allowed extentions (like when I was playing D&D, but then that was always no farther than 5 minutes' drive).  Once I turned 17, I really didn't have a curfew.  I was just told to call home if I planed on staying the night with friends.  My parents knew where I was and who I was with whenever I went out.  I never understood why some teenagers threw a fit when their parents wanted to know where/who/when, because I was always given quite a bit of freedom by divulging such crucial information.

In fact, at one point my friends asked me why I got more freedom than they did, and I responded "Because I earned it."

Maybe because they were doing something they shouldn't. And it all comes down to being honest.

Yes, being honest actually IS the best policy, at least if you want trust from your parents.  I'm not sure how old I was when I learned it.  All I can remember is Mom always got -very- angry if I lied to her.  Consequently, I get very, very upset with those I'm close to if they lie to me.

So I was raised to be honest.

Yep, proves the impact of a good education once more.
My daughters are turning 11 in a few weeks. Not the most dangerous age yet but I'd better be on the lookout right ?
And you do have a point there in your previous posts.
Example , there are quite a lot of friends in their classroom who are strictly limited by their parents concerning internet-time. So in the little time they can spend on line they start looking for the so called 'dangerous' pages...
I choise for an other approach, tmy daughters can surf the internet on any given time. So the excitement of searching the forbidden fruit is gone. They only use the net for schoolwork or the occasionnal game or chat.

Another good solution is to put it in a common area like the living room/great room in the house, there will always be people around.

I'm sure he will find a way to.  My daughters are 11 and 8 years, but i give them indeed limited time on the pc, beause if I  let them go, they will sit the hole  day on the pc, and the oldest is than only talking about the pc, what drives me crazy.    But if they are on the pc they are going on the internet, mostly indeed do games and chat.   The other pc is close near by so I can put an eye on what they are doing.

Shadow is going to end up in a magazine article titled "My Dad is an Internet Porn Addict!"

Jeanny, my dad used to limit me to four hours online, but he soon gave that up.  I never really did anything naughty online anyway.  I never liked being online all day, though.  Your butt tends to fall asleep after awhile.

:D  I have to do the limited time on the computer, once my oldest daughter sat the hole day on the pc, when I came upstairs, she was just like lying almost vertical on the chair, but still chatting *lol*  they are do not going to forbidden pages, thats for sure. but My opinion is that there is a lot more for kids to do  than only  playing and chatting  on computers.
